The Yoga Premium

With the widespread popularity of yoga in recent years, there has been a price premium placed on all things yoga. What appears to be the $2 throw rug sold at IKEA has now been reincarnated as a $35 cotton yoga mat. As with any growing trend, a consumer culture has grown up around yoga. This culture has its unique status symbols. We might feel pressure to attend the trendiest classes, sport the hippest gear, perfect the most impressive poses. Such demands are antithetical to the humility and simplicity that is the basis of yoga.

Am I being hypocritical? Maybe. Ohmtastic was born out of yoga culture; who am I to criticize? But it is my hope, and my company's aim, to remain true to the origins of that culture and separate the quality from the hype. So I'm on the lookout for a functional, stylish, and affordable cotton yoga mat to add to the collection. Stay tuned.
