Kleiner Perkins Green Tech Prize

The eco-bloggers have been all over this article, so sorry if you've heard it already.

VC's funding green technology!!

If green technology is going to become widely adopted, it has to be embraced by the business community. When a prominent private equity firm places an emphasis on sustainable techlology, it's a sign that the economic and ecologic sense of sustainability is getting through to a wider audience.

Kleiner Perkins launches award to spur green innovation - San Francisco Business Times:

"Three huge trends are driving our Greentech agenda," Doerr said. "First, urbanization is the largest trend on the planet. Four billion people will move into megacities in the next 50 years, and they all want green transportation, water, and energy.

Second, climate change and global warming are accelerating at alarming rates. And third, we are addicted to oil, funding both sides of the war on terrorists, weakening democracy and our economy and damaging the environment.

"We must change our policies and practices and accelerate innovation," Doerr said.

In the meantime, I'm still packing my compact fluorescents!

p.s. "funding BOTH sides of the war on terrorists" - excellent point and i don't think we as a country are giving this enough reflection. of course, the oil industry doesn't want us to think about it toooooo much...
