TerraPass

I read about TerraPass recently on TriplePundit:

"Undoing the global warming impact of your car's CO2 emissions is easier than you think.

TerraPass funds clean energy projects like wind farms, methane capture and more.

Third-party organizations verify that TerraPass has a guaranteed impact.

TerraPass is surprisingly affordable – a whole year of emissions for as little as $29.95."

Great idea. Love to think that my $29.95 will offset the damage I do to the environment with my car. But isn't that math incorrect? I'm still causing pollution, even if I'm assuaging my conscience with a donation to clean energy. Shouldn't we also work to cut our emissions?

Granted, funding clean energy in this way will hopefully help promote its widespread adoption in the long run. But telling us we can offset our pollution by purchasing a clean air hall pass seems not quite right.

Better than doing nothing, though!!
